January 2010: Update on Hoa

This is Nguyen Thi Hoa, a beautiful little girl who our family had hoped to adopt in 2008. Unfortunately, Vietnamese adoptions are currently closed to American families and we have not been permitted to adopt Hoa. She remains in an orphanage north of Hanoi. On June 3, 2009, she turned 3 years old. We have been told by Joy Degenhardt (Aid for Kids) who visited with her in the orphanage, that she is a sweet, wonderful, and very curious little girl. Because we cannot adopt Hoa, we are asking for assistance with her medical and care sponsorship. Hoa Hoa has two medical conditions that need medical attention. She has what is called strabismus of both her eyes and she also has a heart condition called Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Hoa will need surgery on both eyes to correct them. This surgery needs to be done as soon as possible so that she does not suffer further damage to her sight. Prior to surgery, she will also need an ultrasound of her heart in order to be assured that she can undergo the procedure.
